Apple Watch Overview

The Apple Watch does more than just tell time. It has taken the way in which we are all connected to another level. The Apple Watch is not only functional, but also fashionable.

While some may believe that a smartwatch cannot replace a traditional wrist piece, the Apple Watch has lots to offer. Not only does the Apple Watch do the job of a regular time piece, but it has features that cannot be found on a smartphone.

How do you know which Apple Watch series is right for you? The Apple Watch can add convenience to your life in one way or another. However, it all comes down to which features are most important to you. It’s important to determine whether you are looking to track your sleep, count calories, read an important message under water, utilize the fall detection feature, or if you simply want a larger display.

With Apple constantly updating their products and releasing new series, we’ve put together a comparison of the Apple Watch series to help you make the right purchasing decision. We’re confident that our comparison will help determine which series will best keep you connected to the world.

Are Apple Watches Waterproof?

Apple watches are water resistant, but not waterproof. A waterproof device is impermeable to water, regardless of how long it has been in the water. Water resistant means that the watch is able to resist water penetration but only up until a certain threshold.

When exposed to sweat, rain and small amounts of water when washing hands, the Apple Watch will not be damaged.

The Apple Watch Series 1 and Apple Watch should not be submerged in water. However, the Series 2 and newer watches can be used in shallow water. Series 2 and newer watches can be used while swimming in the ocean or pool. However, it is recommended that you do not use your watch while scuba diving, or while completing other high velocity water activities.

It is recommended that all Apple Watches be kept away from soap, shampoo, conditions, lotions and perfumes. These substances can impact water seals and acoustic membrane, therefore damaging the watch.

Can the Apple Watch Track Sleep?

All Apple watches are capable of tracking sleep, however, it is recommended that you use a Series 2 watch or higher.

The Apple Watch has built in hardware that is required to track sleep patterns. To begin using these capabilities, you must down a sleep tracker app for onto your watch. Some Apple Apps that can be downloaded to track sleep include: AutoSleep, Sleep++, Pillow, HeartWatch, Sleep Watch, Sleep Pulse 3, and Sleep Tracker by Sleepmatic.

Using an app to track sleep allows your sleep to be auto-detected. Some apps are able to log sleep history and times to help you manage your sleep.

Can the Apple Watch Play Music?

With the Apple Watch, you can control music on your phone, stream music from Apple Music, or simply play music stored directly on the Apple Watch.

If you are subscribed to Apple Music you can add and remove music from your library, add songs to the queue, and view songs on albums and playlists. You can also control playback directly from the watch by pressing play, pausing, and even skipping songs.

Does the Apple Watch Track Steps?

The Apple Watch has the Activity app which track all movement throughout the day. The watch also encourages you to meet your goals which include taking steps, standing up and exercising.

On the Activity app, the red ring displays how many calories have been burnt. The green ring shows how many minutes of brisk activity have been completed, and the blue ring shows how many times an individual has stood up or moved around for at least one minute per hour.

Through your iPhone, you can then check your trends and even challenge and compete with friends.
