Refrigerators Overview
Many say that the kitchen is the focal point of any home. It's where you cook together, eat together, and for some reason, every get together with friends or family seems to end up in there. Well if the kitchen is the center of every home, than the Refrigerator is the center of every kitchen.
Your Refrigerator not only serves as an appliance, but much more. Obviously its primary use is to keep your food cold and fresh. Most have a freezer as well to keep your food from going bad, but there is more to the refrigerator than just keeping your food in it. Its also where you put pictures of your family and friends. Or where you hang that piece of artwork your kid brought home for you from school. Some use it to post daily activities, chores, and messages for the family. It is for these reasons that buying a Refrigerator is one of the biggest and most important items you will ever have to buy for your home
Like any appliance, there are plenty of factors to consider when purchasing your Refrigerator. The size of your kitchen determines the size you buy. Features like ice-makers and water dispensers, drawer organization, or even the type of doors are all things to look at. It needs to fit all of your families needs while still looking good in your kitchen. We have listed a few of the best options out there in an effort to make that decision easier.
Refrigerator Door Styles
As you probably know, there are a number of different things to consider when buying a new refrigerator. As new technology develops, so do the features and options to choose from. With that said, the first decision to make is what style you want. There are 4 main categories of Refrigerator, the Top Freezer, Bottom Freezer, Side-by-Side, and French Door, each with their own benefits.
Top Freezer Refrigerators
The Top Freezer is the original style of Refrigerator. As the name suggests, the freezer is on top but they also have a full size door and tend to be more basic. They usually do not have many extra features like water or ice but they do tend to be the most affordable, more compact and often more efficient than other styles of Refrigerator.
Bottom Freezer Refrigerators
With the Bottom Freezer Refrigerator, the most used compartment is now at eye level making it easier to access your fresh food. This does make accessing your frozen food more difficult but the freezer compartments are usually bigger so some find that trade-off worth it. They tend to be bigger than Top Freezers but not as popular because people often go with the French Door and Side-by-Side option instead.
Side-by-Side Refrigerators
The Side-by-Side is split up in half where the freezer is on the left side and the Refrigerator is on the right. They are designed to be a balance between saving space and providing extra features. The doors are narrow and don't swing out as far but the compartments are also narrow so storing wider items, like frozen pizzas, can be challenging. They also don't contain storage drawers or compartments as the room is limited.
French Door Refrigerators
French Door Refrigerators are becoming more popular these days as they give you the storage, space saving, and extra features of the Side-by-side, combined with the convenience and storage of the Top and Bottom Freezer. Their doors also do not swing out as far as they have French Doors on the Top, but since the Refrigerator is on top, they allow for wider space and plenty of drawers and compartments. They also tend to be the most stylish and come with the most variaty of colors and sizes.
