Ice Cream Makers Overview

Everyone loves Ice Cream in some form or another. Whether in a cone, a bowl, a sundae, cake, shake or sandwich, it is one of the favorite summer treats for many people. It is not only a great indicator that summer is on its way, but also a refreshing way to manage the heat. While there are many different places you can go to buy Ice Cream like Grocery Stores, Ice Cream chains, or your local Mom & Pop Ice Cream shop, for many people there is no better option than making your own.

There are countless brands and flavors out there to choose from but, as with anything produced for the masses, many lack the richness and taste that a good homemade Ice Cream has. Plus, many Ice Creams on the market contain additives and sugars that not everyone is aware of or interested in. That's where the Ice Cream maker comes in. You have full control over the ingredients used and flavors produced and can prepare it exactly the way you want. Much like the other food you prepare every day, you have the control over what you put into your body.

Another great thing about owning your own Ice Cream Maker is its versatility. You're not just limited to making Ice Cream as most can make great Gelatto, Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, Smoothies and more. So whether you've been making your own Ice Cream for years and are looking for a new machine, or you're just now venturing into Ice Cream making and buying your first machine, we're here to help you make the best choice for you.

Types of Freezing Methods

When determining which Ice Maker is best for you there are a number of factors to consider. Size, Color and Price are all important things to look at but perhaps the most important is the freezing method. There are 3 main options out there to choose from when it comes to freezing, the traditional Rock Salt and Ice model, the Freezer Bowl model, or the internal Compressor model.

Rock Salt & Ice Models

The Rock Salt & Ice method is the most traditional way to make Ice Cream. While it has seen other methods developed over the years, this still remains the easiest and least expensive type of Ice cream Maker on the market. As it's name suggests, these machines use Ice to help freeze the product and salt to allow the mixture around the Ice Cream to get colder. These machines also use a crank to manually mix the Ice Cream.

Freezer Bowl Models

The Freezer Bowl Method is also self-explanatory. It requires you to put a bowl in your freezer for a period of time to freeze the bowl before filling it with the cream for churning. This can be an effective way to make Ice Cream but does have its limitations. First, it requires freezer space just to prepare for making the product. If your freezer space is limited, this can be an issue. Plus you are limited to making just one batch as it would require freezing the bowl again before making a second batch.

Compressor Models

The easiest and, as a result, most expensive model is the Compressor machine. These allow you to churn multiple batches of Ice Cream without any freezing preperations. The Compressor starts freezing immediately and can churn automatically. All you need to do is fill it up, press a button and wait for it to finish. If you make Ice Cream regularly and in abundance, this is the option for you.
